Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton made a statement this Sunday insisting that his fellow Texans take advantage of the state’s concealed carry laws in order to prevent all future mass shootings, referencing the deadly shooting that took place on Sunday in Sutherland Springs that killed 26 and injured 20.
The Republican Paxton said during an interview with Fox News that he was devastated by the news of the shooting claiming that “it broke his heart” after it was reported that several children were lost in the attack.
“As far as what we can do in the future, I mean, the only thing I know — because you can’t necessarily keep guns out of the hands of people who are going to violate the law. If somebody’s willing to kill someone they’re also going to be willing to violate a gun law,” Paxton said.
“All I can say is that in Texas at least we have the opportunity to have concealed carry. And so if it’s a place where somebody has the ability to carry, there’s always the opportunity that gunman will be taken out before he has the opportunity to kill very many people.”
Residents of Texas are allowed to purchase a license to carry a gun, which also includes the right to a concealed weapon.
Paxton’s comments rang out just hours after the mass shooting, as reports were still trying to identify the shooter. Devin Kelley has since been convicted, Kelley was reportedly killed in a brief car chase with law enforcement following the shooting.
We sit in the aftermath of yet another mass shooting and Republicans are calling out for more guns, the NRA must have them on a tight leash, I mean they didn’t even went the standard couple days, they were talking about hours after the shooting.
